Healthy workplace: How to defeat the office feeder…

It’s that time of year again where everyone begins to panic about their ‘beach bod’ and starts to regret not keeping up with those healthy eating promises.

It’s not just about how you look, it’s also about staying healthy, inside and out.

Our diet can affect work performance too. Without regular balanced meals or drinking enough water, you could suffer from headaches, feeling sluggish or have difficulty concentrating. We spend most of our waking hours at work, so it’s no surprise that your workplace habits can have a major impact on your health.

It seems that every office has a ‘feeder’, you know, that one person you can rely on to supply the office with cakes, doughnuts, (and especially up North) the chocolate biscuits!

The challenge now is to fight the feeder!

Bringing your own healthy snacks to work is a simple way to help you to resist those office treats. Small, simple steps are the way forward and give you the best chance of keeping up your new healthy workplace routine. Here’s a few to get you started:

Bring in a water bottle. Start each day with a full bottle of water at your desk. You’ll not only stay hydrated and energised but thirst can often be confused with hunger so you’ll be surprised how much drinking more water can beat those cravings.

Empty that treat draw. Get rid of the crisps, chocolate bars, biscuits and any other naughty snacks you have secretly stashed away in your desk. Replace them with fruit, nuts and other healthy snacks. The less you’re tempted by junk food, the healthier you’ll eat.

Make time for meals. It’s easy to forget to eat when you’re snowed under at the office but skipping meals can be more harmful than good! Make sure you set aside 30 minutes each day to walk away from your desk and eat a healthy meal. You’ll come back refreshed, re-energised an less likely to want any of the office afternoon treats!

Bring leftovers. Make an extra portion when you’re cooking dinner each night, and you’ll have a healthy lunch to take to the office the next day. (You’ll also save money by doing this!)
